Application Information - NAAWLI, Inc. Fellowship Program


Participation in the NAAWLI Fellowship Program is a collaborative effort among NAAWLI, Inc., the Fellow, and sponsoring organization.

We look for professionals with demonstrated business talent and leadership potential. Our selective process for admission is based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. To ensure a high-impact learning experience for all program participants, we select candidates from a strong pool of diverse industries and experiences.

The leadership program enriches participants, sponsoring organizations, and requires full commitment from each party. We design our program to encourage individual growth, thinking, and foster productive interaction among Fellows.

The program requires submission of a separate Sponsoring Statement. Completed by the sponsoring executive within your company, this statement provides the Admissions Committee with a better understanding of your background, roles, and potential as a leader.

Admissions Procedure

1. How do I apply to the program?
There are three simple ways to apply:

2. Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is a $100 application fee.

3. What are your admissions requirements?
To ensure a rich learning experience for participants, admission to the NAAWLI Fellowship Program is selective and based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility.

We carefully select leaders from around the country with diverse backgrounds and experiences. This approach enables participants to enhance their management effectiveness by leveraging the experience of their peers.

4. What is company sponsorship?
Fellows are sponsored by their employers. Sponsoring companies agree to pay all tuition fees and are responsible for meeting payment deadline. Fellows are responsible for travel and all other expenses.

5. What is the process for obtaining sponsorship from my company?
You should identify a senior executive within your company to serve as your company advocate. This individual should be named on your application. As sponsor, they are involved in your learning development, and will ensure that you will be free from your official duties during the program, as well as ensure company payment of tuition.

This Organization Sponsorship Agreement form should be completed by the individual authorized by the organization to grant sponsorship to the applicant. The organization understands that the support of its employee during the NAAWLI Fellowship Program is a critical factor in the successful completion of the program. If the employee is accepted into the NAAWLI Fellowship Program, the organization agrees to do the following during the program duration:

"Release the employee from work on all workshop days, which include three 3-4-day sessions in Dallas, Texas" Ensure that the employee's business commitments will not conflict with the required onsite sessions.

In addition, this program requires that the sponsor completes a Sponsoring Statement as part of the application process. This statement provides the Admissions Committee with a better understanding of your background, roles, and potential as a leader. Upon receipt of your application, the Admissions Committee will email the executive a link to an online Sponsoring Statement form. This Sponsoring Statement must be completed before the committee will review your application.

5. How long does it take to process my application?
The Admissions Committee begins reviewing applications in October. Once the review process is completed, applicants are notified via email regarding Admissions Committee decisions by November 31, 2011.

6. How do I check the status of my application?

7. When will I receive the program itinerary/agenda?
Approximately 6-8 weeks prior to start of the program, you will receive a packet of preliminary information, including a detailed schedule, program agenda, program assignments, and hotel registration information.

8. If I am not accepted into a program, should I apply again for a future session?
Admission to NAAWLI Leadership program is very competitive. In addition, we work to ensure that the class roster includes participants from diverse industries and backgrounds. For those reasons, we encourage you to re-apply again.

Payments/Cancellations

1. What is included in the program fee?
The program fee includes tuition; meals; and all program materials. Incidentals, such as dry cleaning, entertainment, phone bills, and the like, are not included in the program fee.

2. When is payment due?
Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date or upon receipt of the invoice if admission is within 30 days prior to the start of the Program.

3. What types of payment are accepted?
Payment can be made by company and personal checks, cashier checks, and credit card payment via NAAWLI website. What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations or deferrals must be submitted in writing more than 30 days before the program start date to receive a full refund. Due to program demand and the volume of preprogram preparation, cancellations or deferrals received 14 to 30 days before the program start date are subject to a fee of one-half of the program fee.

4. Is financial aid available?
Financial assistance is not available.

Accommodations

1. How are the living quarters set up?
Individual rooms include a private bath or shower and standard amenities, as well as Internet access.

2. Should I bring my laptop?
Every participant's room is equipped with Internet access, which you can use for all program assignments.

3. What can I expect on the first day?
On the opening day of your program, registration takes place in the hotel. The program will include an opening session and dinner that same evening. If your travel plans necessitate late arrival, please be sure to notify us so that alternate registration arrangements can be made.

4. What can I expect on the last day?
The program will adjourn after lunch on the last days of Session I and II, so you can make travel arrangements to leave early afternoon. Session III will adjourn after graduation, which will be mid afternoon, so make travel arrangements for late afternoon so you have plenty of time to get to the airport.

5. Are meals provided?
During your stay the hotel provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

6. Are special meals available?
Participants with special dietary requirements are asked to contact us prior to their arrival.

1. What services are available for participants with disabilities?

2. What is the typical attire for a Fellow during the program?
Business casual attire is requested for classes and meals. Since dress codes and terminology vary widely among companies and countries, here are a few examples of what is considered business casual attire:

  1. Open-necked, collared shirts or blouses and sweaters
     
  2. Khakis, pressed pants/slacks, skirts or dresses
     
  3. Suits
     
  4. Leather or casual walking shoes

1. Will I need a car?
No, your intensive program schedule generally allows for little free time.

Policies

1. Discrimination
In accordance with NAAWLI, Inc. Leadership program policy. We are committed to providing an educational and a work environment free from any form of discrimination. NAAWLI will not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, veteran status, or disability.

2. Health Insurance
Participants must be covered individually with comprehensive health insurance for major medical emergencies and/or hospitalization. Please check with your organization's health insurance carrier prior to your arrival to ensure that you have adequate coverage in the United States. NAAWLI, Inc. is not responsible for medical fees incurred during a participant's stay in Texas.

3. Security
It is important to remember that Fellows are urged to take all possible steps to safeguard themselves and their property. Please remember to take proper precautions to protect your valuables. Never leave cash lying around in your bedroom, and remember to close all doors securely as you enter and leave buildings. Do not leave valuables in the classroom or living group lounge in between classes or overnight. NAAWLI, Inc. is not responsible for any loss of personal property.

Program Details

Learning Model

1. How are courses taught?
Case studies offer multiple levels of learning, compelling participants to identify relevant issues and to apply practical business lessons to their own situations and companies. Fellows benefit from an added dimension: the opportunity to be taught by Executive professionals that have personal knowledge of problems and solutions presented.

2. What is the usual class size?
Most classes have between 20 and 27 Fellows.

3. How much time can I expect to spend on coursework each day?
On average, you will spend about six hours each day in the classroom. You will also need to add a one to two hours for advance preparation for workshops.

4. Where do programs take place?
Unless noted, programs are held at The Park Cities Hotel in Dallas, Texas for the class of 2012.

Curriculum
NAAWLI Fellowship Program takes a broad, cross-functional approach to global strategy while exploring key issues in depth. The curriculum blends diverse areas to touch on various business aspects -- from organizational structure, leadership, finance, and talent management issues.

In a dynamic exchange with peers and instructors, you will examine a wide range of situations faced by businesses around the world. Developing your strategic decision-making skills through case studies, classroom discussions, and small group exercises, you will return with a comprehensive understanding of business strategy and the ability to meet new challenges with decisive action.
