Community Service Project
If Not For Love takes its title and central theme from the following line: "Caterpillars do not have wings and cannot fly. If not for Love she could not fly." In this project, girls 6-10 years of age are being transformed into beautiful butterflies through exposure to art and culture as the springboard for opening conversations about building healthy bodies and smart minds. Consulting with teachers to determine critical personal development components that may be underprovided in the school curricula in Prince Georges County, Maryland and in Washington, DC, the project will offer sessions on music and art appreciation; etiquette; self-esteem, character and integrity building; personal hygiene and nutrition; teamwork, and more. The project will partner with Sisters Integrating Staying Together Always Surviving (S.I.S.T.A.S.), a nonprofit organization experienced in providing educational, mentoring, and outreach services to school aged girls. In the end, this project will touch the lives of young girls who otherwise would not be exposed to the kind of enrichment activities being offered.
