Remarkably, K.I. Services, Inc., a newly incorporated nonprofit organization,
was formed during the eight-month fellowship period. The purpose of the organization
is to provide information, education, advocacy, and services to individuals from
communities of color, and to educate and assist them in responding to disparities
in health-care delivery. Its primary focus is on health and human services issues
relevant to reducing the spread of diseases and promoting disease prevention. In
addition, the organization will provide overall health education to people of color,
with particular attention to chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer
(prostate, breast, and lung) and HIV/AIDS. Committed to developing and delivering
culturally sensitive and competent services to the target population in an effective
and practical manner, K.I. Services, Inc. actively involves the target population
in program planning, development and implementation.
