Informed Voices for Educational Equity!

Project developed by: NATALIE BUTLER
Location: Washington, DC

Informed Voices for Educational Equity! will create a community of people who are fully aware of the characteristics of quality schools and are empowered to create change in challenging school environments. Through a series of workshops, panel discussions and community forums, parents, family members and education advocates will learn the appropriate questions to ask when talking to teachers and administrators. The project will help constituents define quality schooling and articulate an action plan for developing a stronger relationship with the schools in their neighborhoods. The forums will be held in southeast Washington, DC, targeted to one elementary school with low parental involvement. Currently, schools in the southeast are among the lowest performing in the District. The partner organization, DC VOICE, believes that true education reform stems from an informed community.
