Yes I Can Project developed by: JOANN MANNING Location: Jacksonville, Florida Yes I Can will add leadership training and self-esteem building to the existing math, science and technology initiative of the Delta Academy. Theses additions aim to instill a sense of self-worth, improve self-perception and assist in character building of the girls and young women, aged 11-15, participating in the program. To accomplish this objective, monthly workshops and group activities will focus on child welfare issues, such as recognizing child and substance abuse, economic literacy, exposure to non-traditional sports, i.e., golf and tennis, career awareness and handling peer pressure. Speakers will serve as role models to inspire and motivate by their example. Spearheaded by the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, the project will seek to collaborate with other agencies working with girls, such as GIRLS, INC. Positively impacting the lives of these young women will make a difference in their communities.
