State Farm/Huston-Tillotson Strategic Mentoring Partnership

Project developed by: RHONDA E. STALLWORTH-MOUTRY
Location: Austin, Texas

State Farm/Huston-Tillotson Strategic Mentoring Partnership pairs African American leaders in the Texas State Farm Insurance Companies office with students at Huston-Tillotson College, an independent, historically black institution located in Houston. The partnership will match the college students with mentors from State Farm. In the first year, thirteen students will be selected to participate. Thirteen State Farm mentors have already volunteered. The project will kick off with an orientation, which will allow the mentees to select their mentors. During the second semester, mentors will conduct a series of monthly, on-campus workshops on such topics as professional etiquette, presentation skills, interviewing skills, personality profiling, and career decisions. Mentors and mentees will also meet informally once a month, including during the summer. State Farm is underwriting the meals and materials.
