Teen Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships
Project developed by: DONNA P. HAWKINS
Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
Teen Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships raises awareness and consciousness of teen dating violence and domestic abuse, especially in faith communities where the problem is often not acknowledged or swept under the rug. The goal is to reduce the incidence of dating violence, raise the level of consciousness about the issue, and help teens understand what a healthy dating relationship is. Youth trained in the teen dating violence program of Interact, Inc. will serve as peer mentors and also conduct workshops. The project will measure success by tracking the number of teen dating violence incidences, the demand for the workshops, and the increased number of teens requesting to be trained as peer mentors. The pre- and post-project assessment will survey participants to find out their awareness of what constitutes dating violence and their fundamental understanding of how to foster a healthy boy/girl relationship. The outcomes will be shared with others seeking to address this problem.
